WHICH FINGER DOES THE ENGAGEMENT RING GO ON?
In the UK engagement, wedding and eternity rings are typically worn on the left hand 3rd finger.
CHOOSING THE FINGER SIZE FOR A SURPRISE PROPOSAL OR GIFT
If you’re unsure which finger size to choose you may be able to get hold of an existing ring which she wears, from this we may be able to work out her approximate ring size.
To measure an existing ring, you can either bring it into us or if you draw around the inside of the ring on a piece of paper we can work out roughly what the size it is from the diameter using our helpful chart. Click here to download our finger sizing chart as a PDF
Please note that this template is a guide only and we would still advise you to come into have your finger sized correctly in person.
You can also ask her friends and family to help.
If unsure, we advise choosing a ring size which is the national average Size L-O if you select ‘Not sure it’s a surprise’ during the ordering process and we will send you out a standard finger size.
It’s also a good idea to choose a slightly larger finger size if possible so that you can easily slip it onto her finger to pop the question.
If you’re away and the ring is too big we will supply you with a temporary tightening tool to secure at the back of the ring so that she can wear it until you’re able to have the ring sized properly.
TIP - If you're purchasing an Engagement ring and unsure of the finger size/design/diamond then why not opt for our Promise ring solution. A promise ring is a low-cost, temporary version of an engagement ring; manufactured to a very high standard so you will still achieve a ‘WOW’ factor when proposing!
HOW TO MEASURE YOUR FINGER SIZE
The best way to measure your finger is if you live or can travel to the London area is to arrange an appointment to visit us at our studio where our sales consultants will be able to accurately measure your finger. We do this using a measuring gauge.
If visiting us in isn’t a possibility, then contact us to request your free ring sizer which will allow you to measure your finger at home.
To choose your correct finger size the ring should feel tight over your knuckle and sit comfortably on your finger. If possible measure your finger size 3-4 times to be sure your size is correct.
The best time of the day to measure your finger size is in the evening when your fingers are warm and at their largest.
In the morning or when they are cold finger sizes can be become smaller. The weather can also affect your finger size.
Be aware that the thicker/wider the ring is the tighter it will fit. Therefore, if you choose to go for a wider ring you may need to increase your finger size by half or a full size.
If you require a temporary tightening solution during the winter months, contact us for further information.
Please don’t use paper or string to measure your finger size as it can stretch and isn’t very accurate.
WHAT DO I DO IF THE FINGER SIZE IS WRONG?
If the finger size isn’t quite right, don’t worry we can usually resize it for you.
We offer one free ring sizing service on any proposal/surprise gift. For any other sizing requirements, we will charge you £40 per sizing.
Solitaire style engagement rings can usually be sized up or down by 3 sizes.
Unfortunately, eternity and rings with diamond set into the shoulders may not be easily sized. We may be able to exchange the item for an alternative finger size or have the ring remade, however this may come with an additional cost. Also, the metal weight or amount of stones featured in the design may alter slightly.
Please contact us for further information.
HOW DO WE SIZE THE RING?
Our experienced jewellers will either add or remove a piece of metal which matches the quality at the back of the ring to increase/decrease the finger size. The metal join is sealed using a laser welder so that the join isn’t noticeable.
HOW LONG DOES THE SIZING TAKE?
It usually takes approximately 2-3 working days to resize the ring and we can either post it back to you or you can pop in to collect it.
